What's fun with Lounge Lizard is that whether you're looking to emulate a particular sound or simply find your own, all those tweaks are just a few knob turns away! Nevertheless, that usually meant spending many hours under the hood with screwdrivers, wrenches, or even a solder iron. Playing basic things on great sounds will eventually cause a person to plateau.Even though famous players shared the same brand and models, they were all achieving their own signature sound. Great notes sound much better on pretty much everything, and then even better on higher quality voices/samples etc.and if you’re lucky enough to own the real thing, and have the means to carry it around, then even better still. There are few situations where a sound/voice/patch etc alone is good enough to carry a basic, vanilla or even poor musical performance on its own and turn it into something better or even great. That’s because vibe and enjoyment from it, are more to do with the actual notes played (melody and harmony) and not the sounds. “Better” also has a great deal to do with what you actually play with the sounds you have (now I know nothing about you personally so this is in no way a reflection on your skills as a musician) but if you play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Jingle Bells with your sounds over and over, then it probably won’t sound as good as if you played the rhodes parts in some Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea tracks where you may find a vibe starts to happen. What sounds good to me may not sound good to you! I’ve heard the EP’s in Vintage Keys and to my ears they are much more fun to play and have much more of a real vibe about them due to the waveforms they use that already exist on your keyboard and the creator’s skill, but hey, that’s the thing, it’s just my opinion. The main reason why it is a different flavour is because it in fact uses NO samples whatsoever and is a physical modelling plugin (and as such based on algorithms alone) (although they have started to add some hammer, tine and damper noise) It features very little if any of the little idiosyncrasies of real vintage EP’s but it can provide some cool sounds for sure. I’ve used the Applied Acoustics Lounge Lizard EP-4 plugin extensively.and to my ears, it is a totally different flavour to the EP’s in Vintage Keys and not directly comparable.but it is very interesting in its own right.
